Neuro-Visual Rehabilitation
Restoring Vision After Stroke, Concussion & Brain Injury
Helping you regain clarity, balance, and confidence through customized neuro-visual therapy programs designed to retrain the connection between your eyes and brain.
Recovering from a Stroke or Concussion?
At Citywide Eye Care, we go beyond traditional vision therapy. In addition to treating children and adults with focusing, tracking, and eye coordination issues, we also provide neuro-visual rehabilitation for patients recovering from acquired brain injury.
Conditions That Affect Vision
Acquired brain injury can disrupt the visual pathways between your eyes and brain, leading to a range of symptoms that affect daily life.
What Is Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)?
Acquired brain injury (ABI) can result from either external trauma or internal medical conditions.
Traumatic (External) Brain Injuries
External causes involve a direct physical impact to the brain, such as a motor vehicle or bicycle accident, a fall, an assault, contact sports injury, or complications from neurosurgery.
Non-Traumatic (Internal) Brain Injuries
Internal causes occur without an external blow and include conditions such as a stroke, aneurysm, brain tumor, or infections and inflammation like meningitis. ABI may also arise from vestibular disorders such as Ménière's disease, or from post-surgical complications that lead to reduced oxygen supply to the brain (anoxic or hypoxic injury).
Common Symptoms After Brain Injury
If you or a loved one is experiencing any of the following symptoms after a stroke, concussion, or brain injury, neuro-visual rehabilitation may help:
- Blurred or double vision
- Dizziness and balance issues
- Headaches related to visual tasks
- Difficulty reading or concentrating
- Light sensitivity
- Difficulty shifting focus from near to far or far to near
- Eye strain and fatigue
- Unable to sustain near work or reading for extended periods of time
- Loss of place when reading
- Difficulty with depth perception
- Eyes get tired while reading

Frequently Asked Questions
Neuro-visual rehabilitation is a specialized program that helps restore visual function after neurological events such as stroke, concussion, or traumatic brain injury. It uses targeted therapies to retrain how the eyes and brain work together.
While traditional vision therapy focuses on developmental visual skill deficits, neuro-visual rehabilitation specifically addresses visual dysfunction caused by acquired neurological injury or disease. It targets the restoration of previously established visual pathways.
Treatment duration varies depending on the severity of the condition and individual progress. Most patients participate in therapy for several months, with sessions typically once or twice per week. Your treatment plan will be customized to your specific needs.
Your initial evaluation includes a comprehensive assessment of your visual function, eye movement control, visual processing, and how your visual system interacts with balance and coordination. Based on the findings, we will develop a customized rehabilitation plan.
